My name is Amber Araneae, some simply call me Spider. My Pronouns are She/Her/Hers
Spider has been my nickname since I was a little girl and I have always had a strong association (and academic obsession) with the beautiful creatures.
I have been a member of Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF) and leadership within Columbia Grove in Portland Oregon since 2015.
I lead a volunteer work-focused Nature Guild group with my Grove that partners with local nonprofit groups to rehabilitate wetland areas, plant trees in urban spaces, identify and remove invasive plant species, journey on nature walks and hikes, learn to identify plant native plants and their uses, and a plethora of other fun natural activities.
I approach my Druidry with a naturalist's heart. I have a degree in plant biology and my career is in plant conservation for my beautiful state. My job also has me working with invertebrates (mostly insects) which is another huge passion of mine.
I began practicing as an eclectic witch in 2004 and even joined a Wiccan coven for a while. I ultimately determined that Wicca wasn't for me so I started practicing my own flavor of eclectic nature-based paganism until 2014 when I found the ADF Druid Grove, Columbia Grove. I really enjoyed the first ritual I attended and I wanted to know more. Reading more about Druidry, and specifically ADF Druidry, unlocked a spiritual box in my mind and heart that said "you aren't a witch...you've always been a druid!" and It was like being hit over the head with a stick.
While I don't always personally agree with the ADF descriptions and guidance on Druidry, it's the closest pagan group that fits most of my beliefs and I LOVE the social community that Columbia Grove has built in my area. The Columbia Grove community is SO inclusive and I have met some amazing people of all spiritualities.
Labels can have power (for some people) and I feel powerful in saying that I identify as a Druid Polytheist.. *and sometimes I'll say I am simply a Druid Biologist*
My favorite place on earth is standing in front of a waterfall, with its powerful spray on my face, listening to it sing while the water rushes over the rock. Waterfalls, forest, and rivers are my home, their energy and magic courses through my veins, and that power pumps through my heart at all times. I live in an urban space and when I hear the call of the waterfall song in my heart, I know its time to take a personal day and go for a hike.
My passions include: Plants in general (especially PNW trees, shrubs and flowers), entomology and invertebrates, poisonous and venomous anything, fungi, reptiles, amphibians, mollusks, shadow work, Irish mythology, Baltic mythology, divination, and intuitive Druidry.
